An interview with Dr. Felix Brandt? You may ask yourself, how this is related to our favorite Atari ST. I can promise you, that it is. You will find out, that he has done some projects, that almost every scener knows and that you won't get any answers to health questions here ;-).

Today is a great day! We finally meet one of the first coders of the Replicants. You can't ignore this mythic crew, which hacked thousands games on Atari ST. The crew released cracks until 1992, but it was mainly active between 1988 and 1990. The Replicants also coded a lot of intros, some demos and guest screens for megademos. Nicolas B. aka Excalibur was one of these coders. He is the man behind the Union Demo screen but also made his own game for the French bi-centennial.

There were not many famous programmers for the Atari ST in Germany. Guido Henkel is one of them for sure. Games like Hellowoon, Ooze and Lords of Doom on the ST or the Das schwarze Auge-trilogy, Realms of Arkania in english, and Planescape: Torment will be unforgotten. ‘Hellowoon’ was the first game, that I bought for the ST, BTW.
I had the idea to do this interview more than a year ago and to my pleasure, Guido agreed with the words: ‘Yes, of course. Thanks, that you still remember me’. Because he is a very busy ‘Guy’ ;-), it took quit long to finish it. If you would like to read more about his games, take a look at http://www.thelegacy.de/Museum/4511/ (in german) and click at the ‘i’ in front of his name.

Straight after the release of the 'new' game Red Ace follows an interview with the creator of this long lost classic. Tony Goacher was a contracter for Red Rat software in the 80's, and as a fan of the classic Psygnosis game Barbarian, he wanted something similar but with a little sci-fi twist to it. Read all about it in this great interview!

| "So we went to Atari and said, 'Hey, we've got this amazing thing, even built with some of your parts, and what do you think about funding us? Or we'll give it to you. We just want to do it. Pay our salary, we'll come work for you.' And they said, 'No.' So then we went to Hewlett-Packard, and they said, 'Hey, we don't need you. You haven't got through college yet.'" -- Apple Computer Inc. founder Steve Jobs, on attempts to get Atari and HP interested in his and Steve Wozniak's personal computer |
