CoCo3 core possible on Mist?

Postby NML32 » Fri May 27, 2016 4:24 pm

I was wondering if the CoCo3 core that is being developed for the De1 over on the Yahoo group would fit on the Mist FPGA?

https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/CoCo3FPGA/info

I found the link here:
http://www.coco3.com/community/2009/09/ ... a-project/

Looks like a lot of work has been put in to this core.

Thanks,

Easy. Should be a relatively quick port as it's a nice project

It would be really nice if it got ported to the Mist.

The coco3 core seems to be available through some closed member list only. The question why that is and how open the license is.

Then the coco3fpga uses sram which would have to be mapped to the mists sdram. This is possible but would probably limit the "turbo" capabilities.

But the biggest questionmark is with the software download. It seems the normal way is to use a pc tool named drivewire with the pc connected to the fpga board via rs232. This would likely need a majpr change to become more user friendly e.g. by using the mists osd for program upload from sd card.

On the COCO3 Yahoo group version 4.1 of the source code was released Nov 2016.
CoCo3FPGA_4.1.zip
CoCo3FPGA Release 4.1

Not sure if anyone has tried to port this over to the MiST yet.
