Where to get Atari ST core and newbie questions

Postby Everett1954 » Mon Apr 10, 2017 5:46 am

Hi,

I just received by MIST from Dragonbox.De and have gotten most cores to work.

However, the official GitHub does not have a downloadable Atari ST core? It has a two year old link that doesn't seem to work.

Also there appears to be a lot of conversation on correct TOS image to use, can someone help me with this also?

Do most cores use a USB joystick (like SNES) and not the DB-9 ports? Are there any cores that use the DB-9's?

Is anyone working on a channel F core?

Thanks,
Everett

Welcome to MiST!

The Atari ST core is actually called MiST. You can find it in github indeed. The file is the .rbf one ,10 months old as of today.

The TOS image was a problem with real ST computers too. Some software depends on specific TOS versions so if something fails, try a different TOS version first.

I cannot help you with the other questions.

I am having problems with the ST setup. When selecting Video from the OSD i only have a choice of two PAL frequencies. I am in US with NTSC.

How do I get the NTSC setting?

I do get a desktop with A&B floppy drives but how do i load a game? I have an Atari ST folder with a VROOM.ST file (I take it that is a game) but cannot load or play it.

Are there separate NTSC and PAL versions of Atari ST core?

I have the latest renamed ST core as core.rbf, tos.img (2.6), dsk_a.st and system.fnt and a folder with VROOM.ST

Do i need something else?

The video standard depends on the TOS you're using (i.e. UK means PAL, US means NTSC version).

You can insert .st floppy images into disk drives using the OSD.

Thank you for the info on the US and Pal TOS.img. Most images seem to be PAL even though they are marked as US.

What file extensions can the ST core use? .ST .STX or Zip?

Also what files extensions for the amigo core?

thanks

For Atari ST use only ST disk images,
for Amiga use ADF files for disks or HDF for harddrive images.
