An old coin op conversion by Domark, a software house famous for its horrible conversions (have you ever tried "S.T.U.N. Runner" ? No ? Well, try it and you WILL be disappointed...). But hey, some of their arcade games, like Badlands or A.P.B., were not so bad, so maybe this one isn' t really crap...
Well, it REALLY looks like the original arcade game. Honest. I mean, it looks like the original - when the game is paused, that is. Sadly, the scrolling is jerky and painfully slow, and even if there' s a lot of nice full 3D polygons there' s only one track, and you' ll soon see everything the game has to show.
Bleargh. I say, there' s only two sounds, "vroom" and "skree !", they could have come out with something better. No way. The "vroom" sounds like a cow with intestinal disease, and the "skree" is incredibly annoying and suspiciously loud...
There' s only one track, even though you can take two different routes, the "speed" and the "stunt" ones. The first, just as the name suggests, is a simple fast track - just keep jour foot down on the gas pedal and run as fast as you can. The second is much shorter, but features a few tricky obstacles; a broken bridge, a looping, a tricky curve... and that' s all. -But that' s enough, ain' t it ?
No, you' re right - it' s not. The whole thing is boring, very boring. The mouse controls are quite difficult to get used to, and once you' ve learned how to steer the game has little or no challenge. It soon becomes a simple matter of beating your own lap record, and there' s really nothing more to keep you playing.
At least, they could have put in a few opponents, but there are only a few scattered vehicles going both ways, and they' re all painfully slow.
And again, if it' s a racing game, and if it' s on a circuit, then why the trucks on the road ? Why the barns scattered here and there ? Aw, forget it, this game just sucks - with or without barns.
